When And How Do I Apply?
When do I apply?
In order to find a quality accommodation for the next academic year, your process should begin no later than January. The University, for its University-owned apartments, begins taking applications in January. Many of the City-inspected and Apartment Directory apartments are under lease agreement as early as March for August occupancy.
If it’s after a time in which the majority of apartments have been leased or the academic year is about to begin, and you have a need for housing, we encourage you to continue to utilize the information and tools provided in the Renters’ Guide in order to find an appropriate accommodation for your needs. Although the University-owned apartments may be fully leased, still, vacancies occur and wait lists open as students make other choices, so it’s worthwhile to make contact with Off-Campus Living at 412-624-9900. Also, private landlords with quality accommodations may have openings and by showing flexibility with start dates, pricing, and types of units, you may be successful in finding an accommodation late in the process. However, your needs will be best met if you start the process in January.
How do I apply?
Applications for University-owned apartments are accepted by Off-Campus Living, located at 127 North Bellefield Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, beginning the second Monday in January on a first-come, first-served basis. You may also apply online. If you have questions, you may contact our office at 412-624-9900 or ocl@bc.pitt.edu. University-owned apartments are not considered on-campus housing and are administered via a formal lease document requiring a security deposit and monthly payments. Any students living in University-owned apartments may purchase a meal plan but are not required to do so.
For City-inspected and Apartment Directory apartments, contact the landlord directly.
